Manchester Histories Festival - 24 February - 4 March 2012

What is MHF?

MHF is a celebration of Greater Manchester’s unique history and heritage, through a ten day programme of events and activities, including the Celebration Day on Saturday 3 March with a packed programme of activity.

MHF will appear to all ages and backgrounds, so see what’s on and come and join in!

History runs throughout all of our lives and MHF aims to both celebrate the familiar and reveal the new and hidden histories from across Greater Manchester.

MHF provides the opportunity for everyone to learn, explore, discover, and interpret history through music, film, debate, talks by renowned historians, performance, walking tours and lots more.

Partnership is key to the success of MHF. Museums, galleries, academics, archives, local and family history societies, cultural organisations and community groups across Greater Manchester help to create the festival, delivering the activity and events, and sharing their knowledge and experience.

MHF is for people of all ages and historical experience from schoolchildren and college students to family history enthusiasts and museum curators.

New for 2012 are the first Community History Awards  recognising successful partnerships exploring Greater Manchester history between schools/community groups and an archive/gallery/library/museum/university.

Manchester Histories Festival is a partnership between the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Renaissance North West.
