Manchester Histories Festival - 21 - 30 March 2014

Annie Horniman’s Manchester

A guided tour

A walk to uncover more of the life and times of Annie Horniman, tea heiress, theatre pioneer and adopted Mancunian. Stroll along the streets to hear about the former Gaiety Theatre and some of its regular repertory company and how Annie became the First Lady of Theatre; what was happening in Manchester generally at this time?

Annie had developed theatres in both London and Dublin, what made her choose Manchester for her greatest experiment? The beginning of the Edwardian era and both great and subtle changes in the lives of ordinary people.

Tour lead by Jean Bailo from Manchester Guided Tours.

Tour starting point: Front steps Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, M2 5DB
