11:00 Lord Rutherford
The film is about Lord Rutherford was the Langworthy Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester (UoM) from 1907 - 1919, and the work he carried out with his research team at UoM in 1910 - 1911 on the structure of the atom. Rutherford, who studied radioactivity, carried out the famous 'alpha-particle scattering experiment' which lead to developments in radiotherapy in treating cancer patients, the atom bomb and nuclear power. Film supplied by the Museum of Science & Industry.
