A Forgotten Fields presentation, illustrating the history of food production along Heyes lane, Timperley, and near Glebelands Road, Ashton upon Mersey, from 1750 to the present day...finding out about the original farmers, market gardeners and present day growers.
The Kindling Trust worked with children of Wellfield Junior School and Heyes lane Junior school to interview local residents about their memories or knowledge of local food production, crop cultivation or food availability.
Topics included the indigenous wildlife and soil conditions, tithe maps and census details showing the local farming families, interviews with the families of local growers from the 19th century. wartime growing, allotment and orchard history and the availability of local, organic food today.
