Manchester Histories Festival - 24 February - 4 March 2012

The Pre-Raphaelites & the Great Art Treasures of Manchester

They were The Brotherhood, Britain’s most spectacular school of art, who soon became the Pre-Raphaelites, determined to bring honesty and purity to British painting in the mid-19th century, and their legacy fills Manchester Art Gallery. But the gallery is also home to modern masterpieces by Bacon, Bomberg, Freud, Hockney and Sickert.

We examine the great art treasures of Manchester in detail, unveiling the stories behind the paintings and this guided tour with John Alker from New Manchester Walks.

Tour starting point: Manchester Art Gallery entrance, Mosley Street, M2 3JL
