The Sewing Academy

The Sewing Academy

Vintage Singer Sewing Machine at the Sewing AcademyCelebrating the history of the textiles industry in Manchester, the window at The Sewing Academy features a beautiful vintage Singer sewing machine alongside bespoke and ready to wear bridesmaids dresses and a stunning tea length House Of Mooshki dress. Local jewellery and cake designers completed the theme with their truly beautiful work.

Owner Deborah Bayan worked for 25 years as a designer in the fashion industry for many high Street retailers She opened her own studio in Stockport 18months ago. From her premises she creates bespoke special occasionwear and also teaches all ages sewing and design techniques.

My love of vintage fashion and luxury fabrics is reflected in both the collections I design and also the interior of the studio and the window displays of the shop. I initially learnt my sewing skills from my mum and also my grandma who spent her working life in the Lancashire cotton mills and once I had caught the bug I went on to study fashion as a degree at Manchester University.  It now gives me great pleasure to share my skills through regular sewing courses and workshops.
