Building the Big Ditch: Victorian Magic Lantern Show

Brought to you by Manchester's Victorian Society, the Victorian Magic Lantern show depicts the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal through an exploration of original photographs and a presentation from Glen Atkinson.

Glen Atkinson is a retired engineer who has worked on canal and railway restoration projects and  a local historiann specialising in industrial archaeology. Sharing his knowledge, he will take you through original slides taken by a photographer working for the Ship Canal company, and show Victorian civil engineering practices in detail.
